ActionAids Positive Women, Positive Lives
Dray Walk Gallery, E16QL (Off Brick Lane), 29 November 2007
ActionAid celebrates Positive Women in photo exhibition To mark World AIDS Day on December 1 ActionAid has joined forces with Positive Lives to put on a photo exhibition - Positive Women Positive Lives in association with Grazia. The free exhibition is a celebration of women around the world who are taking positive steps to reclaim their lives. It opens to the public on Thursday 29 November until Tuesday 4 December at the Dray Walk Gallery, Old Truman Brewery, off Brick Lane, E1 6QL. Positive Women Positive Lives depicts women living positively whilst being HIV positive. The women in the exhibition are being open about their illness, or campaigning to defend the rights of women in their position; each woman in this exhibition is defining what it is to be positive, rather than letting HIV define her. Fionnuala Murphy, ActionAid said “Women’s faces aren’t what people expect to see as the face of AIDS. We’re challenging people by showing women who have chosen to be positive and who are living their lives. Essentially we’re saying sure, living with the virus has implications for all sorts of things - family, work, social status, relationships, self esteem, partnership. But contrary to most people’s expectations, HIV doesn’t mean you have to give up. We want to show how after the feeling of hopelessness at diagnosis, many women make the decision to take control of their situation and to reclaim themselves.” The images and text from Positive Lives are shown along with text from ActionAId showcasing positive initiatives which enable women with HIV to live positive lives.

That’s right, boys and girls - break out the sweatbands and legwarmers for a rare chance to see the story of the New York City High School of the Performing Arts on the big screen. It’s a little dated now (Doris becomes a liberated woman just by going to see THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW! The kids dance in the streets to FAME!) but it’s charming, and defiantly optimistic, even for its gay and black characters - a rare thing back in 1980. I sing the body electric… This screening is dedicated to the late HIV positive actor Gene Anthony Ray. Collection in aid of Liverpool HIV and AIDS charity Sahir House.

Milo Miles Dance AIDS
Pineapple Dance Studios London, 01 December 2007
A few months ago I decided that this year I wanted to get involved somehow in raising funds and awareness for World AIDS Day. I wanted to produce a show but realised that in order to do something really terrific I'd need more time and as usual some sort of financial backing. My ideas of grandeur quickly faded as time went on and my own work schedule became increasingly hectic. Then at last I realised there is something I can do! Everyone should realise no matter how small their contribution is, that it ALL counts. And so this weekend at Pineapple Dance Studios in London I will be holding a special Dec. 1st World AIDS Day dance class. 50% of my profits will be donated to AIDS Awareness through the National Aids Trust. I've been promoting this for 3 weeks now and have already started getting donations from some of my students. I've also asked Pineapple Studios to donate a studio. Hopefully they will. And so I'm not doing the show I had originally intended. But through promoting this very small event I've spoken to and made either directly or indirectly aware a few more people. Maybe next year I'll be able to stage a larger event!!!

Bid to get up close and personal with Lee Mead or Sir Cliff - for just 99p! How do you fancy meeting the West End’s newest and biggest superstar, Lee Mead? Or perhaps you would prefer to share in a piece of history and congratulate Sir Cliff Richard on 50 years in the industry – personally? Well, Saturday 1st December is World AIDS Day and sees the launch of an incredible online auction, The RED Event, which could provide you with just such a life changing experience. The incredible campaign is supported by a remarkable line up of celebrities helping to raise funds for work with HIV+AIDS here in the UK and overseas, the above are just two from over 100 must-have celebrity items you can bid for. Over the next two weeks the charity will release a host of new items each and every day with almost 200 unbelievable lots on offer. There should be something to suit everyone’s pocket especially as you can start the bidding for any of the star items for less than a pound – but the charity hope for much higher closing figures to enable them to further extend their services. Maybe this addictive auction could solve a few Christmas present dilemmas too! Visit www.theredevent.org to take part.

Red clothing, dye your hair, paint your face, whatever you like, & help to get people thinking about HIV & AIDS. Red ribbons will be available during the run up to this event & any donations made will go directly to the National AIDS Trust which will be gratefully received.
