Ellie Ratcliffe reports from Oxford High School about how they marked World AIDS Day...
To raise money and awareness for HIV, our school participated in World Aids Day by having a Red Accessories Day. Both pupils and staff paid £1 in advance for a red ribbon, which they wore on the day as well as a red accessory of their choice.
Everyone loved decorating their uniform. The younger girls spent days planning what they would bring.
"It was really cool and I wore my red cowboy hat and my red converse boots!” Emily, Year Seven
The sixth formers could wear red entirely, and the teachers joined in too. There were some very original ideas, but everyone wore the red ribbon.
Our Headmistress commented on how fantastic everyone looked during a special assembly in the morning, and decided that a photo should be taken to commemorate the event. We raised a total of £317.21 and everyone really enjoyed it.
