What's it like to live with HIV?

There is no cure for HIV, but there are effective HIV treatments available. If people with HIV are diagnosed early and respond to treatment they can be healthy, work and have relationships like anyone else and have a long life expectancy.

Many people on HIV treatment experience side-effects, which can include fatigue, nausea, depression, changes in body shape and liver or kidney damage.

Coming to terms with an HIV diagnosis and getting used to treatment can be very difficult, and people living with HIV will often need support from health professionals, friends and family, employers, support organisations and other people living with HIV.
